Why I’m excited about Sony games (hopefully) coming to PC

On the 16th of January, it was reported that Horizon Zero Dawn was coming to PC. This announcement came from sources rather than an official announcement from Sony so there is some doubt as to whether or not it is happening. Nonetheless, it has provoked the ire of many Sony fans. As a PC player, I am excited and I wish to explain why.

First off, most of my excitement actually does not come from Horizon Zero Dawn itself. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested though. The visual style of the game looks lovely and I have always been a fan of RPGs so getting the chance to play one of the most popular RPGs of late would be great. When I heard the news, I can remember thinking “That’s cool if it’s true.” but not giving it much more thought.

I would like to play Horizon Zero Dawn someday. However, there is a Sony property I’m more excited about.

It wasn’t until I read this article from PC Gamer that I suddenly became excited. It is no secret that I love the Dark Souls games. However, I have been unable to play Bloodborne, a game developed by the creator of the Dark Souls games, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and very much of the same vein as the Dark Souls titles.

I have little interest in purchasing a PS4. Currently I only play games on PC and I’m pretty content in general to keep doing that. The one game that has tempted me to purchase a PS4 is Bloodborne. But is a single game worth spending hundreds of Euro on a console? I have decided no and that is why I have not been able to play Bloodborne.

Bloodborne for PC would be a dream come true!

If it is possible that we will see a release of Bloodborne on the PC in the near future, I can say with 100% certainty that I would buy it. This hope of mine is tempered by the fact that Sony has yet to confirm whether the rumours of Horizon Zero Dawn coming to the PC is true or not.

What is true is that Microsoft, often seen as Sony’s competitor, has seen success on the PC recently. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has been successful on Steam (assuming that Steamspy is accurate) but, even more notably, Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been a giant success and it is possible that Sony has realized how profitable the PC market can be.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has shown that previously exclusive games for console can become very profitable on PC.

It is very possible that the information is false and that Horizon Zero Dawn will not release for PC. If that happens to be the case, I will be disappointed. However, I will still hope that I will be able to play Bloodborne one day. If it is confirmed to be true, I will eagerly await news of a Bloodborne PC port.
