I mentioned before in an article that I’d set up a gaming channel on YouTube called “Victory Achieved Gaming“. Within it, I briefly touched on the inspiration for the channel and the format but something that I left out was the creation of a list which is publicly available and details the games that could potentially appear on the channel. Given that I neglected to do so before, I thought it might be interesting to take a look again at the concept of the list for Victory Achieved Gaming and what my goals are for it.
Those of you who are familiar with the channel will know that the premise is that I, Eoghan, assist a friend of mine, Kathlynn, in playing hard games. I’ve dubbed it the “Guided Blind Let’s Play” which was inspired by some Dark Souls playthroughs I saw before on YouTube and which I believe allows the strength of a blind playthrough to shine while eliminating many of its weaknesses. One component of this though is that it requires at least one participant to have played through the game previously so that they can assist.
I originally wanted there to be three people on the channel and I was hoping for one of them to play Dark Souls while the other would play the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. However, I noted their lack of enthusiasm for playing those particular games and so I decided to write out a list of all the challenging video games that I’d played through and completed in a bid to offer them choice. The plan proved to be a partial success with one, Kathlynn, becoming more enthused for the idea while the other was not available due to work commitments.
You’ll notice several things upon looking at the list. For one, you might notice several entries that have a strikethrough like this. This represents games that we’ve played to completion on the channel and should help potential viewers check to see if we’ve completed a game that they want to watch. Another thing you’ll notice is an (S) and a (L) after the game names. These stand for short and long respectively and they serve a very important purpose for the channel. It gives me a rough idea, based on my personal experience and the information collected at howlongtobeat.com, of how long it’ll take to complete and it serves one of the two blocks on the channel with short games having episodes released on Tuesday and long games having episodes released on Friday. The last thing you might notice is the name (Kathlynn) written beside several games. These are games that Kathlynn expressed some interest in in the past but I have recently been considering changing it to a different purpose. In fact, it’s quite likely this will have changed by the time this article comes out but it’s worth mentioning regardless.
Of course, one issue I’ve come across is figuring out which games are challenging enough to include. I think it’s fair to say that difficulty is quite personal and something that’s difficult for one person may not be for another. I’ve tried to craft the list from a combination of my own experience and general consensus but there remains a few questions that have yet to be answered. Taking an example from the list, Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair is present but not the first game. This is due to the shift in gameplay between them and the challenge that comes with it but what I wonder for something like this is whether people would want us to play through the first game before tackling the harder second one or if we should just stick to difficult entries in a franchise. I would also greatly appreciate recommendations for the list based on the games that I’ve played on Steam although keep in mind that not every game that I’ve played on there I’ve completed.
The list for Victory Achieved Gaming is very important for the future of the channel and it’s been great to share its concept. However, the hope I have is that some of you readers may be able to answer some of my questions about it and make suggestions for games to be included. Let me know your thoughts on the concept of the list for Victory Achieved Gaming, what you think of the games present in it, what other games you’d suggest to include, whether I should include whole franchises if only several entries are hard or just stick to those several entries and any additional information you might have on the topic.
Thanks for reading and if you wish to seek any of the titles I mentioned, don’t hesitate to use amazon.co.uk or amazon.com for all of your needs!
