Here is the conclusion of my article that began in “Gundam Timelines: Not As Confusing As You Think Part 1“.
Cosmic Era
Cosmic Era is the setting for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Easily one of the most popular timelines which enjoyed tremendous sales and high Gunpla sales. Gundam SEED sees the conflict between normal humans called “Naturals” who live on Earth and genetically modified humans called “Coordinators” who live on colonies in space. The Cosmic Era was also the first alternate timeline to receive a sequel series, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, a testament to its success.
Anno Domini
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and its sequel film “A Wakening of the Trailblazer” is set in the early 2300s where humanity has established solar power as their primary source of energy. 3 superpowers, the Union, the Human Reform League and the AEU, withhold the supply of energy for themselves and their allies, leaving smaller nations to fight for energy and supplies. A private military organization reveals itself and states that they will begin carrying out armed interventions in a bid to end all war. Gundam 00 is noteworthy for being the first Gundam series animated in high-definition and widescreen.
Advanced Generation
The setting for Mobile Suit Gundam Age, a show whose character design was done by Level-5 designer Akihiro Hino. It tells the story of a century long war through 3 generations of the same family. In each generation, a boy has to pilot a mobile suit to defend Earth and its colonies. Gundam Age ran for 49 episodes and also had an OVA which retells the story of the second protagonist with new footage.
Our Century
The setting for Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam Build Fighters Try, Gundam Build Divers and Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise. Set in the present day, characters use Gunpla (figurines of the mobile suits that you construct) to fight each other in a virtual game called “Gundam Battle”. I’d recommend starting with Gundam Build Fighters although Gundam Build Divers features a different cast of characters.
Reglid Century
The setting for Gundam Reconguista in G which is the first Gundam series to air in a late night slot. A theocratic government that promotes opposition to technology has ushered in a time of peace. However, there are factions that want to re-arm themselves as space pirates appear alongside a special mobile suit. Although this show references Universal Century, I don’t think it is necessary to have watched it as they explain that Universal Century was a time of conflict in contrast to their own peaceful age.
Post Disaster
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans is set 300 years after a war known as the “Calamity War”. A group of child soldiers on Mars led by Mikazuki Augus rebel against adults and establish a mercenary company. There are 50 episodes in the show and this is the most recent timeline at present.
As of this article, these are all the Gundam timelines that have been created. As you can see, these Gundam timelines are not too confusing and should be viewed as their own show with little to no connection to other Gundam series. If you have any questions about the Gundam timelines or if there is anything you wish to add, don’t hesitate to comment below.
Hopefully you have found this article interesting and informative and, if you wish to seek any of the works I mentioned, don’t hesitate to use amazon.co.uk or amazon.com for all of your needs!
